Privacy Policy for Lookup
Last updated: April 6, 2026
Lookup is a dictionary and vocabulary app. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app may process and how it is used.
What Lookup processes
Depending on the features you use, Lookup may process:
- text you choose to look up, share, or send through Android text selection;
- clipboard text, if you enable optional clipboard lookup on supported Android versions;
- lookup history, saved words, notes, and app settings stored on your device;
- backup files you choose to export, import, or sync with Google Drive;
- notification data such as a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token;
- limited device and app information needed for app features, notifications, ads, or backup services;
- advertising identifiers or similar identifiers used by Google AdMob in the free version.
Lookup does not require an in-app account.
How the data is used
Lookup uses data to:
- show definitions and related content;
- support lookup from shared text, selected text, or clipboard text when enabled;
- save your history, notes, favorites, and preferences locally on your device;
- import, export, and sync backups when you choose to use those features;
- send notifications;
- display ads in supported free versions of the app;
- maintain and improve app functionality.
Local storage
Most user data is stored locally on your device, including history, notes, saved words, cached content, and app settings.
You can remove local data by clearing app storage, uninstalling the app, or deleting backup files you created.
Clipboard, sharing, and selected text
Lookup can process text you intentionally send to it through Android sharing or text-selection features.
If you enable clipboard lookup, the app reads copied text on your device to show a lookup popup. This feature is optional and is not required to use the app.
Backup and Google Drive
If you use backup features, Lookup may create or restore backup files containing your app data, such as history, notes, saved words, cached content, and settings.
If you enable Google Drive backup, the app uses your Google account and Google Drive app-scoped access to upload, download, update, or delete your backup file. Google may process this data under its own privacy terms.
Ads and notifications
The free version of Lookup may use Google AdMob to show banner or interstitial ads. AdMob and its partners may process data such as advertising identifiers, device information, and app interaction data under their own policies.
Lookup also uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to send notifications, which may involve processing your device’s FCM token and related messaging data.
Third-party services
When you use online dictionary, translation, or web-based definition features, the word or text you request may be sent to the relevant third-party service to return results.
These services may include Google, Google Drive, Firebase, Google AdMob, Urban Dictionary, Wikipedia, Cambridge Dictionary, Merriam-Webster, Collins, Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com, Vocabulary.com, Oxford, Yandex translation services, and Livio dictionary integrations.
Your use of those services is also subject to their own privacy policies.
Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
Lookup may share data only as needed to provide app features, including with Google AdMob, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google Drive, and the third-party content services you choose to use through the app.
